Pacamara coffee grown on volcanic soil? Shut up and take my money!

To those who have little idea about coffee varietals, pacamara is a cross breed between the Pacas and Maragogype varietals. Pacamara is famous for its huge size as well as being difficult to roast; but once the roaster nailed the roast profile, it can be rewarding in terms of flavours and texture!

Our current pacamara from El Salvador is produced by Finca Lorena, a family-owned coffee estate currently run by Renato Arturo Romero Silva. The estate is situated at the foothill of the Santa Ana volcano, where fertile soils enriches coffees planted on the land with sufficient nutrients.

Also, why Finca Lorena? Because they are one of the few farms who would dedicate a huge plot (at least three hectares out of 20 hectares) to grow pacamara varietal solely! That shows how much they love and understand this varietal.

On the Naming of the Coffee

At The Crackpots Coffee Roaster, we always try to help beginners and advanced drinkers alike to understand more about coffees. One of our efforts is to explain the various cryptic names of coffees which could be confusing.

Here’s a breakdown of this coffee:

El Salvador

El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America. It is the smallest and most densely populated of the seven Central American countries.

Santa Ana The Santa Ana is a department of El Salvador. On top of that, the farm is situated at the foothill of Santa Ana Volcano (aka Ilamatepec).
Finca Lorena The family-own coffee estate's name. Finca literally means "land" or "ranch".
Pacamara A coffee varietal - a cross breed between Pacas and Maragogype.
