Brewing Recommendation: Espresso / milk-based / mokapot

One of the best Guatemalan premium commercial coffee (80-83 pts) we have cupped across this seasons, with an intrinsic quality of citrusy acidity that goes well as a black, and milk chocolate and nutty notes that goes very well as a white coffee. Top that with a dash of sweetness that reminds you of molasses that adds to the overall experience? Yum!

On the Naming of the Coffee

At The Crackpots Coffee Roaster, we always try to help beginners and advanced drinkers alike to understand more about coffees. One of our efforts is to explain the various cryptic names of coffees which could be confusing.

Here’s a breakdown of this coffee:

Guatemala

Guatemala is a Central American country south to Mexico.

Huehuetenango

Huehuetenango is a city and municipality in the highlands of western Guatemala.

SHG

Strictly High Grown (SHG) Coffee – also known as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) Coffee – is coffee grown altitudes more than 1,200 meters (4,000 feet) above sea level.

Washed

A processing method in which the skin, flesh and mucilage are stripped from the coffee bean within days of the coffee cherry being plucked from the tree and washed with water before drying. This removes any impurities and makes the coffee taste cleaner.
