Looking for a good ol’ Ethiopian natural coffee with comfortable fruitiness that leans towards citrus acidity? The current natural processed heirlooms we have from Tirtira Goyo might just be what you're looking for!

Tirtira Goyo locates at 400 km in the south of Addis Ababa within Hambela Wamena woreda in the West Guji zone. Washing stations built in the kebele are often named after the name of the place itself, where “Tirtira Goyo” actually means the bold and courageous Goyo, a farmer known for his tenacity who lived in the village a long time ago.

Most of the coffee trees around Tirtira Goyo are grown together with a vast variety of other crops which help with balancing the surrounding soil. Among all other crops, coffee plants benefit particularly from the presence of Enset (Ensete Ventricosum, also known as Ethiopian banana or fake banana), because its large trunk serves as a natural water reservoir which helps to moisten the soils during dry seasons.

At The Crackpots, we always try to help beginners and advanced drinkers alike to understand more about coffees. One of our efforts is to explain the various cryptic names of coffees which could be confusing.

Here’s a breakdown of this coffee:

Ethiopia

Ethiopia, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is a country in the Horn of Africa.

Ethiopia is said to be where all coffees come from, and coffee production in Ethiopia is a longstanding tradition which dates back dozens of centuries.

Guji

Guji is a zone in Oromia Region of Ethiopia, named after a tribe of the Oromo people. It used to be a part of Yirgacheffe until 2002, after which it was made a separate zone due to its growing population and economic activity.

Hambela Wamena

A woreda within Guji Zone.

Tirtira Goyo

Tirtira Goyo locates at 400 km in the south of Addis Ababa within Hambela Wamena woreda in the West Guji zone.

Natural

Natural in coffee usually means that the coffee is sun-dried without removing the flesh and skins of the cherries. This processing method enhances the fruitiness of the coffee but is prone to over-fermentation.
