Looking for a good ol’ Ethiopian natural coffee with fruitiness that dances on your palate? Here’s a coffee with notes of mixed berries and grapes with an aftertaste of Oolong tea from the highlands of Tirtira Goyo.
Tirtira Goyo locates at 400 km in the south of Addis Ababa within Hambela Wamena woreda in the West Guji zone. Washing stations built in the kebele are often named after the name of the place itself, where “Tirtira Goyo” actually means the bold and courageous Goyo, a farmer known for his tenacity who lived in the village a long time ago.
Most of the coffee trees around Tirtira Goyo are grown together with a vast variety of other crops which help with balancing the surrounding soil. Among all other crops, coffee plants benefit particularly from the presence of Enset (Ensete Ventricosum, also known as Ethiopian banana or fake banana), because its large trunk serves as a natural water reservoir which helps to moisten the soils during dry seasons.
